Useful tips for your Thailand trip

I want to share some useful info for the independent travellers planning a Thailand trip (script written on August-2011):

·We have seen almost all country in 2 weeks and we can say that, if you just want to see the things around, almost every city except Bangkok can be seen in only one day. On the other hand, if you want to join some activities such as rafting, elephant safari etc. you need more time.

.Intercity transfers generally take much time by bus (3-7 hours). So, carefully plan your agenda. Also keep in mind that domestic airlines are not too expensive and can be another good alternative.

·Although we have been in Thailand in August (rainy season), there were no need to bring nor an umbrella neither a rain coat. We have never used them since it is still warm while it is raining.

·Lovely monkeys at Phi Phi Island can sometimes bite! :D Be careful! Don’t get too close! But don’t miss the chance to watch them. They are really cute.

·The boats between Phuket and Phi Phi are rare! (every 2-3 hours). Get reliable info about the timetable.

·We strongly believe that Thailand is among one of the safest countries for tourists and Thai people are one of the best ones all around the world! Unfortunately, we think that Bangkok can be an exception of this. Since our bag was stolen by two thiefs who got closer to our tuktuk and took our bag as we were having a tuktuk trip, take good care of your personal belongings under such circumstances.

·As a vegetarian for about 20 years, i realised that some meals that you think they are vegetarian may not be so! :D For example, a vegetarian-food seeming noodle soup can be boiled with pork.

·If you want to see Phu Lang Ka region it is possible even in the low season. Get in the bus (which goes to Chiang Kham) which departs from the old bus station in Chiang Rai at 09.30 everyday. The bus driver knows the region and the lovely Phu Lang Ka Resort which is the only accommodation facility in the region. Do your best to see the tropical forests, lovely lake and especially the fascinating waterfall that are very near to the Phu Lang Ka Resort! Kevan, the lovely owner of the resort can help you to find a car and driver (you can find some photos of us and some from the internet here: http://icanflie.blogspot.com/2011/08/doguma-bolum-2.html)

·In the low season make sure that you have some canned food with you. Actually we recommend you to bring few cans of canned food even if you won’t go to the rural districts, because Thai food is not for everyone. If you don’t have some, keep in mind that an Italian pizza brand which is very delicious called "1112 Pizza" has a very wide network in the country.

·Don’t be too lazy to use your mosquito repellent if you don’t want to be a cullender! :D

·Yes tuktuk is a very cheap way to hang around, but don't forget that taxis can even be cheaper!

·It is impossible to visit the ruins in Ayutthaya on foot in only 1 day! We strongly recommend you to hire a tuktuk. We met a personal guide with his own car, in Kanchanaburi. His name was Mr.Wut and he was a great great great guy and guide! We really admire his information and attitude. We wanted him to take us from Kanchanaburi to Ayutthaya and be our guide there. After a visit in Ayutthaya with his perfect guidance, we wanted him to take us to Bangkok from there. We are very glad for it since he was a great guide, the inter-city transportations became easier (and not too much expensive) and we could do many things in only 1 day! (Early morning shopping in Kanchanaburi, trip to Ayutthaya, visiting the ruins there and trip to Bangkok). We strongly recommend Mr.Wut! His email adress and mobile number are as follows: 081-8316788, wuttichai_wt@yahoo.com

and.. say hi to that lovely country and her great people, which we have already missed too much...
